The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) bestowed upon UNTV a special award citing the station as a partner in achieving justice in the Philippines and an institution for community service.
VACC is a group composed mostly of victims of heinous crimes, government agencies and concerned citizens striving to expose corruption in the government, convict those who commit crimes, and help victims achieve justice.
Founded by Dante Jimenez in 1998, VACC celebrated its 18th founding anniversary last August 29 this year at the Malacañang Palace in Manila, where it gave out the special awards. This year’s theme is “Kabalikat sa Tunay na Pagbabago (Partners for True Reform)”.
True #PartnerForChange
In the Philippines, UNTV, now called UNTV News and Rescue, is well-known as an active media partner of many government and private groups in providing public services to Filipinos.
Kuya Daniel Razon is the CEO and Chairman of the content provider for UNTV News and Rescue, Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI). The veteran journalist is responsible for the public service, community development-focus, and news-and-rescue advocacy through UNTV.
The station gives the agencies free airtime slots on its public service programs to inform people of important information and to promote their projects.
UNTV also ties up with them for various charity events. Just recently, 13 government teams joined UNTV’s Season 5 of basketball-for-charity tournament, the UNTV Cup. It’s by far the biggest public service event on television with almost P10 million to be given away for the teams and their chosen charity foundations.
Media Partner and Public Service Awards
As UNTV News and Rescue strives excellence in broadcasting and public service, it is not only VACC that took notice of the station’s genuine efforts. The public service channel also received the following awards over the last five years:
• Three-time winner of Best Media Partner for Television (SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards)
• Best Public Service Broadcast Station of the Year (1st Mabini Media Awards of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines)
• Best Public Service Channel (30th Year-Ender Dangal ng Bayan People’s Choice Awards)
• Best TV Public Service Announcement (19th KBP Golden Dove Awards)
• PNP Award for Citizen Outreach Support (Philippine National Police Community Relations Group)
• Most Supportive TV Station and Bannuar Ti Amianan or Hero of the North (Department of Social Welfare and Development and Office of the Civil Defense Region 1)
