UNTV Named “Most Supportive TV Station” and “Hero of the North” For Helping Typhoon Victims

UNTV once again shined the brightest as the country’s only public service-focused channel after bagging two awards – the Most Supportive TV Station and Bannuar Ti Amianan (Heroes of the North) 2014 awards – from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Office of the Civil Defense Region 1, respectively.

For a decade now, UNTV under Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI) remains the only local television network that produces television content that are not only informative and educational but also high in inspiring positive change in society. It also conducts various public charity works and projects at no cost, such as Free Medical Health Mission, Free Legal Consultation, Free Education, blood drives, and more.

DSWD commended UNTV’s unique contributions and exemplary commitment in delivering humanitarian assistance and disaster response to save lives. Gawad Ulat Awards gave UNTV the prestigious honor during DSWD’s 64th anniversary, held at the Grand Meng Seng Hotel in Davao City.

DSWD Region 11 Director Priscilla Razon thanked UNTV for its huge part in assisting the relief operations of the department in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Pablo in 2012. UNTV volunteers helped in repacking relief goods and mounting feeding programs in cooperation with DSWD.

The DSWD Region 11’s director also cited the station’s significant contributions in promoting DSWD’s programs and projects on TV and on the web.

Razon (no relations with Kuya Daniel Razon) also acknowledged the veteran broadcast journalist for backing the DSWD when it faced controversies and criticisms.

“UNTV was a neutral and objective ally of DSWD as one of the government arms mandated to really serve the survivors of typhoon Pablo,” she added.

Also recently, the Office of the Civil Defense-Region 1 recognized UNTV as one of its Heroes of the North awardees, citing the station’s efforts in providing relief and security to the citizens in the region during the onslaught of typhoons Luis and Mario last year.

CDO Commodore Severino Vicente David said that the awardees’ sacrifices and help to save the lives of their neighbors while putting their own lives to the brink of danger are priceless.
