The PNP Responders, AFP Cavaliers and MMDA Black Wolves racked important wins as UNTV Cup moves on to the Quarterfinals stage of its second season last May 25 (Sunday) at the Ynares Sports Arena.
In the first game, the PNP Responders kept their unblemished record at the expense of the Judiciary Magis with the score of 87-77 to close the elimination round.
The Responders took advantage of the absence of Magis star center Don Camaso, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, with PNP slotman Jaymann Misola dominating the paint to finish with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Both the PNP and Judiciary await the winners of the quarterfinals stage as they prepare for the semifinals stage
Meanwhile, the AFP Cavaliers moves on to the semifinals of the cause-oriented league after demolishing the Senate Defenders by 28 points, 78-50.
The Cavaliers overcame a 26-point, 12 rebound performance from Senate star reinforcement Kenneth Duremdes by imposing their will down low. AFP center Rolando Pascual finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds while forwards Jeffrey Quiambao and Ian San Esteban finished with 12 points apiece.
They also stunted Senate role players from providing support to their star player, as shooting guard Tata Marata finished as the second leading scorer for the Defenders with only 6 points.
And in the third game, the MMDA Black Wolves kept their championship hopes alive after winning against the Malacañang Patriots, 84-75.
The Patriots have the twice-to-beat advantage coming into the game but the Black Wolves took advantage of the absence of Malacañang’s key forwards Jenkins Mesina and Paul Yamamoto to force a do-or-die game on June 1.
MMDA’s reinforcement Jeffrey Sanders paced the Black Wolves with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Harold Monzon gave quality minutes with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
