From the hard court grounds of UNTV Cup, UNTV’s Action Center is extending its public service drive to different barangays in the Philippines with Barangay Bagbag in Novaliches, Quezon City as first stop.
Kingspoint Subdivision and nearby residents received free medical, dental, and optical consultations, and legal assistance from UNTV Action Center.
UNTV also offered training for residents on how to apply first aid medication during emergencies.
One of UNTV’s key partners in the project, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), took part in providing free haircut. On the other hand, to educate the public to become more responsible viewers, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) also conducted a seminar on intelligent viewing.
Other partners and volunteers for UNTV Action Center include Fatima University Medical Center, Manila Doctors Hospital, ADD Foundation, and Kamanggagawa Foundation.
“It’s a delightful feeling because we’re not only delivering services to those who actually have the capacity to avail it,” said Dr. Oliver Salazar of Fatima University Medical Center.
“Through this medical mission, we’re able to render services to those who really need them and those are the indigents,” Dr. Salazar added appreciatively being one of the volunteers.
“This is an immense help for us, mainly to the people in our barangay. It’s such a great benefit to our less fortunate constituents especially in terms of health,” thanked Barangay Captain Richard Ambita for the free services of UNTV.
It’s People’s Day!
On February 11, 2014 during the UNTV Cup 2 grand opening, UNTV Chairman and CEO Daniel Razon brought up the idea of putting up the UNTV Action Center.
The project pools the public services of UNTV and of the ten government agencies participating in the basketball-charity league.
While watching UNTV Cup games, the public can also come to the action center for free services. Kuya Daniel called each service day the People’s Day.
A Heart for the Senior Citizens
Kuya Daniel had known that there are many senior citizens in Brgy. Bagbag who badly need free services especially medical aid.
“About 1,200 senior citizens do not have their ID cards yet because of lack of requirements, so they’re not able to receive privileges as seniors,” Ms. Jo Gonzales, who co-host Kuya Daniel in one radio program on UNTV Radio La Verdad, said.
Beside the consultations, the elderly were given free medicines and eyeglasses. One recipient, Crisensia Padilla, expressed gratitude over the free services, exlaiming the help was of big help to the seniors as most of them only depend on their children.
Merlita de Juan was also grateful for the medical mission: “This is a huge relief because we’re given free medicines. The money that we’re supposed to spend for our medication we will now use to buy rice.”
UNTV Action Center is going to Brgy. 386 in Sta. Cruz, Manila on its next People’s Day scheduled this April.
