With about 209,000 registered participants in the Kahit Isang Araw Lang Unity Run for education of UNTV and Kuya Daniel Razon held last January 22, the event reportedly surpassed the Guinness World Records’ largest running event.
But joining the world records is not part of the plan.
“We are not interested in the Guinness World Record recognition,” said Kuya Daniel Razon, adding that his priority “is mainly to help develop awareness on doing good through our advocacy of providing computer facilities for public schools students.”
Kuya Daniel revealed that he and Education Secretary Armin Luistro has started the modernization project even before the benefit race began.
“Even before the unity run, Secretary Luistro and I have already started putting up computer facilities in various schools,” disclosed the CEO and Chairman of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), which operates UNTV.
As envisioned in the project, beneficiary schools from around the Philippines will also receive air conditioning amenities, besides computer units. Accordingly, recipients are yet to be identified based on the recommendation of the Department of Education. The project is part of Mr. Razon and UNTV’s educational assistance for the DepEd’s Adopt-a-School campaign.
The broadcast journalist, who is the brains behind the Kahit Isang Araw Lang advocacy and fun runs, also thanked the participants for their valuable support. He also enthused that as much as possible, the benefit run would be held yearly.
According to UNTV reports, the Unity Run received bulk of the support from Members Church of God International (MCGI) of Bro. Eli Soriano. Other participants included faculty and students of different public schools, members of the Philippine National Police and of Armed Forces of the Philippines, representatives from Philippine Coast Guard, some city officials and government agencies, and private companies, among others.
This year’s event also felt the support of key officials and stars including Education Secretary Luistro, PNP Director General Chief Nicanor Bartolome, Commodore Jesus Milan of the Philippine Navy, Daisy Reyes, William Martinez, Richard Reynoso, Dinky Doo, and Jeffrey Hidalgo.
Besides the seven key cities in the Philippines, the fun run was also held simultaneously in Denmark, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, New York, California, Maryland, Canada, and South America. (Words by Hazel Chavez-David; Edited by Jane Abao)
