Serbisyong Kasangbahay, OWWA Help in Repatriation of a Human Trafficking Victim in UAE

UNTV’s Serbisyong Kasangbahay program hosted by Kuya Daniel Razon successfully helped facilitate the repatriation of an overseas Filipino worker from the United Arab Emirates, according to an October 6 report from UNTV News and Rescue.

The Filipina overseas worker managed to contact her relatives and friends through online, where she learned of Serbisyong Kasangbahay. She requested her friends to seek assistance from the UNTV program. In turn, the public service-oriented program immediately coordinated her case to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for repatriation.

OWWA then assisted her process all the necessary documents for repatriation for her swift return to the Philippines and her hometown of Aklan.

Human Trafficking Nightmare

A mother of three children Janette Villanueva became emotional as she recounted her traumatic experience in the UAE, where she claimed she had been a victim of human trafficking for seven grueling months.

In an exclusive interview by UNTV News and Rescue, Villanueva said that an acquaintance offered her a job as a domestic helper in the UAE in February of this year. Even though no valid travel documents were presented to her, she did not hesitate to grab the opportunity. Her dream of good fortune became a living nightmare as her agency sold her to slavery to PHP16,000.00.

After seven months away from home, Villanueva got to hold her children again. “I thank Serbisyong Kasangbahay, Kuya Daniel and the staff of UNTV. Had it not been for the help of your staff and Kuya Daniel, I won’t be able to come home safe. Thank you very much. I did not expect this. Your staff in the UAE wholeheartedly assisted me. Thank you very much.”

Serbisyong Kasangbahay airs from Monday to Friday at 4:30-5:45 pm via UNTV News and Rescue Channel with a simulcast on UNTV Radio La Verdad 1350 kHz and live streaming on www.untvweb.com and Facebook.
