Supporters of the benefit basketball league of UNTV on lookout for yet another exciting hard court battle for the championship trophy will need to wait until the evening of April 28 this year.
Judiciary Magis will go all out for their second championship in the UNTV Cup Season 3 league, leading 1-0 in the Best of 3 games. But Malacañang Patriots promised an upset and bring the game to Game 3.
UNTV Cup is the first and only basketball league on local TV whereby government agencies and public servants participate.
Started in 2013 by UNTV-BMPI CEO Daniel Razon, the benefit game aims to unite government agencies to play basketball while encouraging commitment to their chosen charitable institutions.
UNTV Cup Finals Best of 3: Game 1
Judiciary won game one, 89-71, last April 12, propelled by the huge scoring brought by center Don Camaso and point guard Frederick Salamat. Julius Rabino and forward Ariel Capus also gave good runs, free throws, and rebounds throughout their game.
Judiciary made their biggest 20-point advantage in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots however only had Samuel Ignacio making scores.
Meanwhile, last season’s champ, AFP Cavaliers, landed on third place this season, even after defeating the Senate Defenders, 98-87.
Best of 3: Game 2
The second game is set on April 28 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. The first game will start at 6:00 pm between UNTV Cup Selection vs. SkyWalker All Star, an exhibition game for the benefit of Samboy “Skywalker” Lim.
Teams Judiciary and Malacañang made it to the championship series after drubbing the other nine teams in the elimination and semis rounds of the season.
