Kuya Daniel Razon, the brain behind Philippine broadcasting innovations like “Tulong Muna Bago Balita” and drone journalism, came up with another broadcasting milestone by introducing a coffee shop concept to his morning TV program Get It Straight with Daniel Razon on UNTV Life.
Kuya Daniel opened Daniel’s Coffee PH last June this year at the UNTV Building along EDSA in Quezon City. Since then, it has started to make a name for itself as new, competitive player in the Philippine coffee shop industry.
Another Big Broadcasting Innovation
Daniel’s was initially intended to create a new twist for Kuya Daniel’s morning TV show Get It Straight with Daniel Razon. The morning program, where notable personalities are invited for a no-holds barred interview with Kuya Daniel on controversial issues, greatly benefited from the concept, as it created an interactive atmosphere between Mr. Public Service, his guests and the audience.
“What I really wanted is parang, parang nagkape lang kami nung guest ko sa isang coffee shop tapos nagkuwentuhan kami tapos nagusap kami asking straight questions. Tapos mayroon naman na mga nag-i-eavesdrop na mga nandun din,” Kuya Daniel said.
(What I really wanted is like, me and my guest drinking in a coffee shop and having a conversation by asking direct questions. Then there would also be people eavesdropping on us there.)
“Most of the time, pag tayo nasa coffee shop or any place tapos may nadinig ka sa tabi mo na may nag-uusap ng something interesting, hindi naman dahil sa nanyinyismis ka or what but especially kung by accident napakinggan mo yung pinaguusapan nila, you become interested,” Kuya Daniel added.
(Most of the time, in a coffee shop or anywhere else, when we hear other people talking about something interesting, not for the sake of eavesdropping or what, but especially if you overheard the conversation by accident, you become interested.)
“So, ang concept ko talaga, parang ganoon gawin. But, mahirap naman kung ilalabas ko pa so, sabi ko, why not come up with a coffee shop set?,” said the veteran broadcast journalist.
(So my concept is like that but it will be difficult if we bring it on a different venue. So I said, why not come up with a coffee shop set?)
Dream Come True
Incidentally, Kuya Daniel and his wife and co-host of Bread N’ Butter program, Arlene Razon, have long been planning to put up a café business, and the TV show’s format change proved to be a good business opportunity as well.
“Plano na din kasi ng wife ko talaga na magkaroon ng ano, coffee shop, matagal na. Sabi ko, eh di yun na din ang gawin nating pinaka-pilot para ma-master mo yung ano, mapag-aralan mo talaga, yung magiging takbo,” he added.
(My wife and I planned to start a coffee shop a long time ago. So I told my wife, let’s also use this as our pilot so that you can learn how to run a coffee shop.)
“Personally, kami yung nag-food tasting. Kami iyong nag coffee tasting. Lahat ng coffee na ititimpla dapat alam natin ang lasa. So, lahat ng nandito ngayon, natikman namin lahat, alam namin lahat, at gusto namin lahat. Kailangan walang nandyan na hindi natin nagustuhan,” said Kuya Daniel.
(We personally took care of the food tasting and coffee tasting. We really made it a point that we know the taste of all the coffee options. We were able to taste each and everything on the menu here so we know everything and we like everything. We made sure that we are satisfied with everything on the menu.)
Daniel’s Coffee is located at the 1st floor of UNTV Building, 907 EDSA Philam Homes, Quezon City, Philippines. It is open Mondays to Fridays from 6am to 10pm and Saturdays from 9am to 10pm.
