When Daniel Razon changed UNTV News’ journalism code from “Get it first. Get it right” to “Tulong Muna Bago Balita” (Rescue First Before Reporting), he did not mean to undervalue news reports. He meant, “Our fellowmen are more important than anything else, more than getting and delivering news.”
Since July 2010, all UNTV shows including news programs have incorporated public service, and ultimately made it the station’s core brand.
In behalf of Kuya Daniel Razon, UNTV spokeperson Atty. Wilhelm Soriano receives the civic group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption’s Outstanding Individual in Community Service from Department of Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.
With public service on the frontier of his journalistic vow, Mr. Razon’s advocacy is a breath of fresh air in the unending competition for scoops and exclusive reports by media networks. And while recognitions are not on the list of his goals, the benefiting community itself is appreciating the efforts.
On its 54th anniversary, the Social Security System (SSS) awarded its first-ever Balikat ng Bayan Award for Excellence in Journalism to Good Morning Kuya!, UNTV’s morning magazine program hosted by Kuya Daniel Razon.
The journalism award was given by the Social Security System for the first time to Kuya Daniel Razon. Receiving in behalf of Kuya Daniel is Ms. Annie Rentoy, host of Kaagapay program at UNTV, whose program of the same title was also given the award.
SSS, a state agency that provides social security protection to employees in private sectors, recognized GMK for being a key player in its information dissemination drive. On its regular slot every Tuesday on the segment Aksyon ni Kuya, SSS members are able to ask questions and seek assistance directly from an agency’s official.
“Laking pasasalamat naman ng SSS sa naging bahagi ng UNTV sa Social Security System (SSS is very grateful for the contribution of UNTV),” said Emilio de Quiros, SSS President and CEO.
Another UNTV program, Kaagapay, also received the same award. SSS also honored some of its employees who showed improved service performance as well as top employers in the country with the highest rate of SSS membership among their workers.
Also recently, Mr. Razon was named “Outstanding Individual in Community Service” by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC). The anti-crime group cited the initiatives of the broadcast journalist to render assistance to the oppressed and crime victims.
