Daniel Razon recently led 24,000 participants to UNTV’s new environmental cause called “Add-a-Tree Global Tree-Planting Project.” The initiative is part of the broadcast journalist’s Kahit Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) advocacy for change.
“There are worldwide concerns about global warming and climate change, and we want to be a part of the global solution,” Daniel Razon said, explaining the grounds behind his and UNTV’s Add a Tree project during its worldwide launching on October 10 held at the ADD Convention Center Park in Apalit, Pampanga.
“Add-a-Tree” activities included the reforestation of landmark areas provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the 15 Philippine regions. Apart from tree-planting spots in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, some land areas in Asia, Middle East, Europe, Canada, and North America were also registered for the event.
To recall, this is the same campaign that cleaned up the world’s 30th dirtiest river, the Sapang Alat in Caloocan City, Philippines a year ago. According to Kuya Daniel, the launching of Add-a-Tree Project was the start of replanting activities of UNTV. He added that the initiative is a continuation of massive cleanup drives of places prone to flashfloods, a direct result of climate change and global warming.
Unlike other tree-planting initiatives, the project will not only plant trees but also nurture them until they grow strong enough to serve their purpose. “We will not only be involved in planting trees, but also in nurturing them. We will not abandon these trees,” Kuya Daniel added.
Through an adoption agreement between television network UNTV, represented by its Chief Executive Officer Daniel Razon, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), such promise was sealed. With this pact, UNTV takes the responsibility of nurturing the planted trees for three years or more as the agreement can be renewed upon expiration.
The project’s launching was aired live at UNTV and was simulcast globally through UNTVweb.com’s video streaming platform. A special documentary titled “Ang Mga Dapat Malaman ni Juan” (Things John Ought to Know) was aired to complement the station’s environmental awareness campaign. The special documentary discussed significant points about climate change, global warming, environment and industrialization.
As the prime advocates of greener and cleaner Earth in the Philippines, DENR showed support by sending representatives to almost all designated points in the archipelago. DENR Region 3 Director for Forestry Sophio Quintana led other envoys. UNTV and DENR were joined by Miss Earth Foundation, which was represented by Kris Psyche Resus and Sandra Inez Seifert. Resus is Miss Philippines-Earth 2010 while Seifert is Miss Earth-Air 2009.
The Climate Change Commission and the ADD Foundation International that is the charity arm of Members Church of God International or Ang Dating Daan, were also among the other key partners for this event. Ang Dating Daan was celebrating on the same day its 30 years in broadcasting through an activity geared to benefit the environment.
International Evangelist Bro. Eli Soriano, whom Kuya Daniel acknowledged as an inspiration in launching the project, wanted this outreach project to contribute to society by taking part in solving various global environmental concerns. Bro. Eli serves as the inspiration behind Razon’s molding young citizens that are assets of the society.
From an advocacy to change the socio-economic status of the many indigents, Kuya Daniel now calls for actions to change environmental conditions for a cleaner and greener Earth.
This project for the environment is part of Kuya Daniel’s Kahit Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) advocacy which is also behind the historic Just One Day – Run for Free College, and Hoopsters Meet The Legends – Just One Day, where both fund the free private college education of 396 scholars of La Verdad Christian College.
