Daniel Razon is Vocational Service Honoree of Rotary International’s Kamuning Chapter

Where success and achievements, good works, and genuine service goals are counted in honoring service honorees, two award-giving bodies recently find Daniel Razon and his advocacy among their perfect candidates.

In two separate awards nights held recently, UNTV-BMPI Chairman and CEO Daniel Razon received a Vocational Service Award while UNTV’s anti-smoking campaign won as Best Television Public Service Announcement.

The plaque of recognition as Vocational Service Awardee in the field of Mass Media was given this year by Rotary International District 3780 to Kuya Daniel Razon at a ceremony held last October 26, 2011 at Richmonde Hotel in Quezon City.

Rotary International District 3780 gave Mr. Razon one of its 14 Vocational Service Awards this year for his valuable contributions to the society through vocational excellence in the practice of mass media.

Efren Capa, Silver President of the Rotary Club of Kamuning, cited that the broadcast journalist is an epitome of a “national big brother” for his distinctive and valuable contributions to society.

“We have UNTV, that is the only public service channel in the Philippines, and projects like Clinic ni Kuya and free bus rides which are done daily, these are only some of his distinct contributions,” said Mr. Capa.

A member of the Rotary Club of Kamuning, Kuya Daniel was nominated by his fellow rotarians. A screening committee of RI District 3780 then duly screened the nomination, taking into account his feats as a media man and his exemplary works that benefited the community. “He was nominated not only as a rotarian but as a veteran broadcast journalist, and also for his many accomplishments,” Capa further explained.

Mr. Capa added that it was Kuya Daniel who conceptualized the Rotary’s television program, Rotary in Action, aired at UNTV every Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.

Thirteen other personalities were recognized as service awardees and these include PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome, AFP Chief General Eduardo Uban Jr., Senator Teofisto Guingona, and Maria Venus Raj, Miss Universe 2010 4th Runner-up, among few more others.

The Rotary International (RC) is a service club organization of business and professional leaders who are committed in providing humanitarian service and building goodwill and world peace. The District 3780 includes all chartered Rotary Clubs (roughly 97 clubs as of 2011) within the territory of Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

On top of Kuya Daniel’s service award, UNTV’s anti-smoking campaign was chosen as the Best Television Public Service Announcement in the 20th Golden Dove Awards held last October 26, 2011 at Star City Complex in Pasay City.

A part of Kuya Daniel’s Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) advocacy, the campaign shows the ill effects of cigarette smoking to a person’s health and encourages millions of people to quit smoking.

UNTV’s Tulong Muna Bago Balita (Rescue First Before Reporting) advocacy plug was also nominated for Best TV Public Service Announcement. Other nominees include Hataw Balita for Best Newscast, Sports 37 for Best Sports Program, and UNTV for Best TV Station.
