If the netizens are to be asked their choice of Ultimate Luminary at Rappler’s Do More Awards, the consensus points to the name of seasoned broadcaster Daniel Razon.
Razon, the UNTV-BMPI CEO, received 94 of 100 percent total votes of all three finalists in the Luminary category of the first edition of Rappler and Rexona’s search for ‘Ultimate Doers.’
The online poll shows a landslide vote against the 2 percent of former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Naprey Almario and 4 percent of TV5 broadcaster Lourd De Veyra. Voting ended at 11:59 p.m. of November 24 this year.
Do More Awards aims to “commend Filipino achievers who have the courage to challenge the status quo…who take the initiative to go beyond the call of duty.”
Mr. Public Service: Doing More is Doing Even the Little Things
While Razon’s public services through UNTV are proofs that his efforts are herculean, the veteran broadcaster said in his Rappler interview that doing more is doing even the little things in every opportunity that one gets.
“Even if you’re just doing little things but you’re doing it with every opportunity you get, at the end, you will find that you have done a lot of things already,” explained Razon, who is also known as Kuya Daniel.
The broadcaster earned the moniker Kuya Daniel as Filipinos look up to him as a big brother who is always willing to extend help. He is also called the Mr. Public Service in Philippine TV for pioneering initiatives that give out free services to the marginalized group.
From doing little things, Kuya Daniel’s public service grew immensely and is now counting 30 years. Noted firsts in the Philippines are his news-and-rescue advocacy, free education, free rides, free daily clinics, mobile radio booth, mobile school, and rescue cab, among others.
Kuya Daniel, an Inspiration
The WordWeb defines luminary as “a celebrity who is an inspiration to others.” On the online poll page of Rappler, voters share why Kuya Daniel is their ultimate luminary.
Twitter user jeffpee7 wrote, “Kuya Daniel changes the face of broadcast media.” In 2010, the broadcaster redefined Philippine journalism through his launch of “Tulong Muna Bago Balita” (Rescue first, report later), an initiative that puts saving lives first over news reporting.
Another online user, Jessica Fernandez, through her Facebook account said, “Kuya Daniel is really a person of prominence with brilliant ideas and achievements. He has a heart that is inclined to good works.”
She is also convinced that Kuya Daniel can do more, saying, “His undeniable accomplishments in public service proves that he is truly God-sent. What he does is always in accordance with God’s will. With that, he’ll surely and definitely can Do More!”
Besides jeffpee7 and Jessica, the poll page of Daniel Razon shows thousand other Facebook and Twitter users who also put their votes in the comments. Their posts convey one message – Daniel Razon is people’s choice for ultimate luminary.
Do More Awards awarding is set today, November 28, coinciding Kuya Daniel’s 30th
anniversary in public service. Rappler is opening a live stream and live blogging of the event at //www.rappler.com/move-ph/domoreawards/44686-live-do-more-awards.
