Is it farfetched for someone from the third world country to be recognized by a sophisticated crowd merely by his deeds?
Netherlands-based Ode Magazine featured veteran Filipino journalist, Daniel Razon, in their online publication under the Education category February of this year. [See link here]
Ode Magazine is known for content that features people and ideas that are inspiring, positive and influential for change. In the past, it featured Patch Adams, Deepak Chopra, and other known personalities before they were featured in mainstream magazines and became household names.
Ode targets sophisticated and intelligent readers who are looking for alternatives from the usual content that mainstream magazines offer.
In the case of Mr. Razon, it highlights his influence through his advocacy that encourages change.
The article specified the journalist’s various projects that served as the key for the optimists’ magazine to provide page of focus on him. These projects are under his advocacy Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) call for a change by devoting one day to do good for fellowmen in need, particularly those who are capable to help.
Although Mr. Razon’s advocacy is only asking one day for every person to contribute good deeds in the society, his endeavor goes beyond that principle as the project of free services he initiated had been continuing for years.
“They should have seen what we are doing. We have links and websites that that would give them details of what we are doing and what we have done,” said Mr. Razon
Mr. Razon explained that if anyone who followed the advocacy by giving free service for a day, he can always add more days to it. An implication is that one day is actually the starting day where one can do good deeds, which is highlighted in the advocacy.
In Ode Magazine, the article cites the free services that Mr. Razon had initiated. The Free Clinic, Free Legal Consultation, Free Bus, MRT, and Jeepney Ride Project, Medical Missions, and his public service TV show Munting Pangarap (Small Dream) are just some of the projects that the article had mentioned.
Earlier this year, Daniel Razon was nominated in 2009 Shorty Awards, an international award for Twitter users, for best journalist category, along with fellow Filipino personalities like Angel Locsin for best celebrity, and Bro. Eli Soriano, of Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path), for education under community category.
Mr. Razon was the only Filipino journalist who made it in Shorty Awards nomination. His nomination alone speaks of his credibility in his field being recognized worldwide even without winning the title. The Ode Magazine obviously agrees by featuring him.
Mr. Razon is already over 26 years in service and his advocacy, Isang Araw Lang, is turning a year this 2010.
