Daniel Razon Gets “Darling of the Press” Nomination

Roughly six months after he was chosen Best Male Newscaster in the 24th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Television, Daniel Razon gets nominated as “Darling of the Press” honoree by the same award-giving body on its 27th Star Awards for Movies. The distinctive award determines who has set a brand of good image and rapport with the press people.

For his colleagues in the Philippine media, Razon is known as a prime advocate of change and social services. Razon’s Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) advocacy that renders various public services to the indigents through television station UNTV, also provides free medical assistance to his fellow media men and their families. This project for the media people is held regularly every first Sunday of the month. The initiative also extends financial help to media men who are wounded or hospitalized in doing their duties.

PMPC members will choose the winner from this year’s five nominees with Razon being the only broadcast journalist in the pool. Other selections include action stars-turned-politicians Senator Bong Revilla and Laguna Governor ER Ejercito and celebrities Luis Manzano and Anabelle Rama.

Daily at UNTV, the Clinic ni Kuya project serves up to 1,000 people in an average. Services provided include free medical and dental checkups.

In July 2009, his directorial debut film, Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day): The Movie, gained local and international success. The independent film, inspired from Razon’s advocacy to do good even for just one day, portrays an honest ex-military officer-turned-jeepney driver who adopts street children and inspires others to do good. Veteran actors Rey “PJ” Abellana, Robert Miller, Emilio Garcia, and Arnel Ignacio co-starred Razon in the blockbuster movie.

PMPC will also give 25 other awards for the best Philippine film talents and movies released in 2010. Awarding is set on June 17, 2011 with the venue to be announced soon.

It will be recalled that the Polytechnic University of the Philippines conferred on Daniel Razon the doctorate degree in Humanities, Honoris Causa, during its 2011 Commencement Exercises held last May 6 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, Philippines.
