“I fear that I’ll be killed. I am willing to surrender. I am not a criminal to be shot.”
Fearing for his safety, former drug dependent and police asset, alias Totoy, sought the help of UNTV News and Rescue’s Serbisyong Kasangbahay after a shooting incident nearly took his life.
Totoy, 24, recounted that while riding his motorcycle on his way home at around 1 a.m. of August 9, 2016 in Marikina City, a group of uniformed police and police in civilian clothes with some barangay officials intercepted him and suddenly opened fire at him.
“I noticed that they were policemen. They immediately opened fire at me so I ran as fast as I could. What I did was I jumped into the river,” alias Totoy detailed during his guesting at the show on August 25 this year.
He said the policemen didn’t cease from shooting him even he was already submerged in the water. The incident lasted for four hours.
“It was raining then. They left. I swam towards Sto. Niño River Park,” the former police asset recalled.
Alias Totoy reckoned that he was being picked out because they were the same policemen who arrested him in March for alleged possession of shabu. However, the case was dismissed by the Marikina City Prosecutor for lack of merits and probable cause.
Quick Action by PNP
Serbisyong Kasangbahay coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Police Community Relations Group headed by Col. Gilbert Cruz who promptly helped the case of Totoy. They confirmed that alias Totoy is not part of the drugs watchlist.
Subsequently, Totoy filed a complaint against the involved police officers as he suspected that the incident was connected to his being a former asset of the Marikina Station’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Group.
Alias Totoy also had a standing warrant of arrest for violating the city’s Ordinance 72 S-2005 or Marikina City’s “Dress Code in Public Spaces” Ordinance and for non-appearance on hearings. With the help of UNTV News and Rescue and Marikina City’s Office of the Mayor and City Administrator, Totoy was able to post a bail.
Alias “Totoy” is now relieved. He’s thankful for the help of UNTV’s Serbisyong Kasangbahay.
Serbisyong Kasangbahay is hosted by Kuya Daniel Razon, who is also Chairman and CEO of UNTV-BMPI. The program is being aired on UNTV, Monday to Friday, at 4:30 p.m. The show is also simulcast on UNTV-Radio La Verdad 1350 kHz and live streamed on untvweb.com and Facebook.
