Beside sustaining the full scholarships of more than 1,000 students of La Verdad Christian Schools in both Caloocan City and Pampanga province, Daniel Razon is looking at adding hundreds more scholars every year to his list of free education beneficiaries.
Through the program called Aksyon ni Kuya, a free short course that was started this month of January, the veteran broadcast journalist aims to send hopeful learners from poor families to vocational schools without worrying about the expenses attached to studying a vocational course.
Kuya Daniel, through Philippine media channel UNTV and his morning show, Good Morning Kuya!, partners with two training centers that will conduct the vocational trainings. The six courses include: Building Electrician, Caregiver, Household, Housekeeping, Healthcare, and Food and Beverage.
Every quarter, the program will send 30 students to Sofia Training, Consultancy and Review Center to get free short course in Building Electrician.
Meanwhile, twenty-five students will be given the opportunity to attend the three-month training of Household, Housekeeping, and Food and Beverage courses while another batch will attendthe six-month Healthcare and Caregiving courses.
Pauline Joy Training and Assessment Center, a TESDA accredited, houses the trainings of these five courses.
This recent addition to Kuya Daniel’s free education initiatives is seen as a valuable response to unaffordable tuition fees of private, technical and even government-funded educational institutions.
In 2009, the broadcast journalist started his “Study Now, Pay Never” project together with Bro. Eli Soriano, who is the Presiding Minister to the Members Church of God International or MCGI. The project kicked off with a few hundreds poor but deserving students who each received full scholarships at La Verdad Christian College in Apalit, Pampanga.
Hundreds more Filipino, Ghanaian, and Liberian students were given the opportunity to study at no cost as La Verdad opened branches in Caloocan City, Philippines, Liberia, and Ghana, Africa.
Kuya Daniel’s free education project is a part of his Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) advocacy that aims to render acts of goodness to the fellowmen even for a day.
