The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will clash on the hardcourt as the much-anticipated UNTV Cup Executive Face Off Finals happens on Monday, July 10, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Conceptualized by BMPI-UNTV President and CEO Kuya Daniel Razon, the UNTV Cup off-season has a one-million-peso cash prize up for grabs, which will be given to the champion team and their chosen charitable institution. Runners-up will receive P500,000 for their team and their chosen beneficiary.
Coming off convincing wins against their semifinals foes, the AFP Cavaliers and the PNP Responders will meet in the one-game finals showdown brandishing a fast-paced, high powered offense and intense full-court pressure defense that will be a big treat to UNTV Cup offseason fans.
The Real Champion
Consistent with Kuya Daniel’s public service advocacy, the partner charitable institutions of the participating government agencies are the real big winners in the UNTV Cup offseason finals.
The Cavaliers’ AFP Education Benefits Systems Office and the Responders’ Sangguniang Masang Pilipino International Foundation (SMPIFI) Inc. both have a chance to win the top cash prize.
Meanwhile, the DOJ Justice Boosters, after winning the battle for third place, secured P250,000 for their seven chosen beneficiaries. Silong Tanglaw Foundation, Home for the Golden Gays, Asilo de San Vicente, World Vision, Uswag Kabataan, Inc., Nazareth Home for Children Foundation, Inc. and Save the Ifugao Rice Terraces Movement will all get a share of DOJ’s winnings.
Other chosen charitable institutions set to receive donations sponsored by UNTV are Bureau of Customs’ Caritas Manila and Senate’s Tahanang Mapagpala Immaculada Concepcion Foundation, Inc.
A Banner Season for Basketball Legends
UNTV Cup commissioner Atoy Co and Deputy Commissioner Ed Cordero will lead the PBA Legends team, joined by hall of fame basketball players Ramon Fernandez, Jerry Codinera, Jojo Lastimosa, Ronnie Magsanoc, Allan Caidic, Dindo Pumaren, Vince Hizon, Olsen Racela, Noli Locsin, Bogs Adornado, Pido Jarencio, Bong Dela Cruz, Philip Cezar, Alvin Patrimonio, Bong Hawkins, Art Dela Cruz and Kenneth Duremdes.
The Executive Selection will be composed by Senator Joel Villanueva, BOC Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, BOC Deputy Commissioner Gerardo Gambala, DOJ Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, PCGG Commissioner Reynold Munsayac, Supreme Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva, Court of Appeals Associate Justice Edwin Sorongon, Makati City Prosecutor Jorge Catalan, Makati City Deputy Prosecutor Christopher Garvida and Assistant State Prosecutor Alexander Suarez.
Proceeds of the exhibition game amounting to one million pesos will be awarded by UNTV to the Samahan ng mga Dating Propesyonal na Basketbolista ng Pilipinas for the benefit of former professional players in need of medical assistance.
It can be recalled that a similar exhibition game between PBA Legends and the UNTV Cup Season 3 All-Star selection was organized in 2015 to raise funds for the medical expenses of hall-of-fame “Skywalker” Samboy Lim.
The UNTV Cup Executive Face Off Finals program will start at 6pm. Live updates will be available on UNTV Cup’s official Facebook and on Twitter at @UNTVCup.
